WLHS PTSA Positions

Below are brief descriptions of each position

 

PTSA Board Positions (Elected Positions)

 

President

Coordinate the work of officers and committees of the association in order that the objectives may be promoted. Preside at all meetings. Advocate on behalf of all students. Ensure all voices are heard in meetings in accordance with Robert’s Rule of parliamentary procedure.

 

Vice President 1

Work with president, coordinate events and fundraising. Fill in for President in their absence.

 

Vice President 2

Work with president, coordinate events and fundraising. Fill in for President in the absence of President and Vice President 1.

 

Secretary - Recording

Take minutes of the association’s meetings.

 

Secretary - Corresponding

Update the current list of members provided by membership chair into google email. Send out correspondence on behalf of PTSA.

 

Treasurer

Keep permanent books of accounts and records. Ready books for annual financial review. Serve as chair of budget/finance committee.

 

PTACHC Delegates (2 positions) – Represent Wilde Lake High School PTSA at PTA Council of Howard County monthly general meetings that are usually held at the Homewood School. The meetings are usually held on the evening of the first Monday of each month. (The dates and times are subject to change by the PTACHC)

 

Hospitality

Coordinate PTA-hosted breakfasts/luncheons and other events involving hospitality.

 

Membership

Attract the Wilde Lake High School Parents/Guardians/Community to join the PTA through events, activities, etc. Manage members and submit names and dues to state/national PTA.

 

Website & Social Media Chair

Coordinate PTA-hosted breakfasts/luncheons and other events involving hospitality.

Non-Board volunteer opportunities  – The following positions do not serve on the PTSA Board of Directors and are not chairs of committees.

 

Non Board - Special committees

 

After-Prom Chair – research/plan/ coordinate after-prom event, confirm date of prom with school, contact venue, arrange for volunteers for the event, create flyer, create email drafts, work with PTSA website chair to create online forms for tickets sales / permission slips.

Cultural liaison/chair (2-3 positions)-  research/plan at least one special program or event for each of the cultural months - (working with the PTSA Board) to determine the topic and date - National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. National African American History Month in February. Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month in May. International/ cultural combined event in April or check with school for date or month.

 

UMD Concessions volunteer coordinator – Communicate with University of Maryland concessions regarding dates of games / events; create sign ups, recruit volunteers, remind volunteers about upcoming games, create draft emails for review to be sent out to members in school newsletter, website, and social media.

 

Raise Right gift card fundraising coordinator – Learn about the fundraising program, promote the program, encourage families to join the program, create draft emails for review to be sent out to members in school newsletter, website and social media.

 

Monthly restaurant fundraising coordinator – Contact local restaurants regarding fundraising opportunities, create flyers, create draft emails for review to be sent out to members, in school newsletter, website and social media.

 

Non-Board – other organizations representatives

 

HC Drug Free – Point of contact between PTSA and HC Drug Free. Review HC Drug free upcoming events and provide explanations and reminders to PTSA, draft emails as needed to be sent out relating to HC Drug free. http://www.hcdrugfree.org/

 

SECAC – representative (1 or more) - Attend meetings of Special Education Community Advisory Committee and provide report to PTSA.  SECAC is dedicated to educating parents, educators and the community in matters unique to the needs of children and young adults with disabilities. SECAC and HCPSS encourage and welcome parent involvement in every phase of a child’s educational journey. In the area of special education, parent involvement is crucial. CAC – representative (1 or more).
